Iran: Funeral ceremony held for victims of Tuesday's air crash in Tehran

Tehran, Dec 8, IRNA-A funeral ceremony was held here this morning for martyrs of a horrible plane crash that killed over a hundred people on Tuesday afternoon.

Thousands of people, including a large group of officials, members of the armed forces and those of bereaved families, joined the procession.

Majlis Speaker Gholam-Ali Haddad Adel, First Vice-President Parviz Dawoudi and Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Mohammad-Hossein Saffar Harandi were among those who joined the processsion.

Some 108 people were killed when a military C-130 plane, which allegedly had technical difficulties before take-off, smashed into a densely populated residential area in southern Tehran, setting a high-rise building ablaze on Tuesday.

A few minutes after take-off, the plane radioed for permission to make an emergency landing but failed, and crashed into a 10-storey residential building in Towhid tounship, near the Mehrabad International Airport, at 14:10 local time.

Sixty-eight of the plane's passengers were media people. An IRNA reporter from its social desk, Sepahdar Sajedi, and IRNA photographer Seyed Mehdi Mirafzali were among those killed in this tragic accident.
