Moscow, Dec 8, IRNA-Head of Russia state electricity Company expressed his country's readiness here Wednesday to cooperate with Iran to build new powerplants as well as modernization of previously constructed powerplants in other nations.
In a meeting with Iran's Ambassador to Moscow Qolamreza Ansari, Antoni Chobias reiterated the interest of Moscow in linking Iran's electricity grid to Russia's via Armenia and Azerbaijan Republic.
The two officials also discussed future electricity cooperation between the two neighbors.
Ansari referred to the historical cooperation between Iran-Russia in building electricity powerplants by Russia.
"Moscow is one of the importance partners of Tehran in energy sector," Ansari added.
He also said that for sustainable development in the area to take root, the linking of energy sources of regional countries is a prerequisite and essential.
Minister of Energy Parviz Fatah said here last month since the national electric power network is connected to those of the neighboring countries, Iran has become a major power transmission center in the region.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the 20th International Power Conference, he added that connection of the national grid to those of the neighboring states has facilitated the export and import of power.
"Such connection to Russia's power network has paved the way for connecting the Iranian network to the Europeans. This would not only improve the model of power load in the long-run, but would make its supply more economical," he noted.
