TEHRAN, Dec. 11 (Mehr News Agency) -- The contract to operate GSM services in Iran will be put to tender by the Iranian mobile operator IranCell.
The turnkey tender will include two phases. During the first phase, the selected company should undertake to locate BTS (Base Transceiver Station) systems, which contain transmission and receiving technology and also the aerials to supply a radio cell under an MSC (Mobile Switching Center). In the second phase, Base Station Systems/Subsystems - that portion of a GSM network that includes the base station, base station controller and transcoders - will be installed in different parts of the country.
Each bidder should provide IranCell with a General Contractors' license approved by the Management and Planning Organization (MPO). The deadline for interested parties to apply for receiving forms and other bidding documents was Sunday December 11.
The South African telecommunications company MTN, which was recently announced as the ultimate winner of Iran's Second Operator project, has started the system designing for the project together with IranCell.
