Tehran, Dec 20, IRNA-An earthquake measuring 3.7 on the Richter scale hit the city of Talesh in the northern province of Gilan Tuesday morning.
According to the seismological base of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the quake occurred at 08:27 hours local time (04:57 GMT).
The area hit by the tremor measured 48.90 degrees in longitude and 37.95 degrees in latitude, the report added.
The quake's epicenter was in Leisar town, north of Talesh. It caused residents of Talesh to panic and rush out of their homes.
There are no reports of any casualty or damage to property caused by the quake.
Quakes of varying magnitudes often occur in Iran, which is ituated on some of the world's most active seismic faultlines.
