Iran trying to attract Arab skiers to its ski resorts

Tehran, 22 December 2005 (CHN) -- While Dubai's ski resort has been constructed in an area three times bigger than a football field, Iran is trying to attract Arab skiers to its beautiful ski resorts.

"The low cost of skiing in Iran in comparison with the European countries is the main advantage of coming to Iran for skiing. In addition, skiers will have the opportunity to enjoy the natural cold weather of Iran, something which they are deprived of in Dubai," said Saeed Moradi, director of Tourism Association of Public Sport Federation.

Dubai tourists go to its entertainment park, "Dubai Ski", which is covered with artificial snow and has a cold weather, to escape the terribly hot weather of Dubai city for a while.

Among the Arab countries, Dubai is the only city which has created such an artificial ski resort. Iran still has the chance to attract Arabs and other skiers from neighboring countries to its own ski resorts by providing sufficient facilities with an economic price in its natural ski resorts.

"Sport Tourism Association is going to provide catalogues which will contain useful information about the ski resorts of Iran, including expenses, accommodations, hotels and other facilities. These catalogues will be completed with the cooperation of Iranian Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organization and will be sent to the Arab countries of the Persian Gulf region within 20 days," added Moradi.

"Providing these catalogues would be helpful in attracting tourists from tropical countries which do not have snow. Constructing artificial ski resort is very expensive and is not economic at all," added Moradi.

The main aim of the Sport Tourism Association is to train the ABCs of skiing with the cooperation of the Ski Federation. This will provide a good opportunity for Arab skiers to take advantage of the inexpensive ski resorts in Iran and other facilities, and to consider Iran as a great entertainment tourism destination. Ski training courses will be held at the international ski resorts of Dizin and Tochal.

Training of mountain climbing skills and boating will also be held with the cooperation of their respective federations.
