Iran's cement production to rise to 70m tons from 32m tons

Zabol, Sistan-Baluchestan prov, Feb 5, IRNA -- Minister of Industries and Mines Es'haq Jahangiri said here Saturday that Iran's cement production capacity will rise to more than 70 million tons by 2010 which is the final year of the fourth five-year economic development plan (2005-10).

Jahangiri said at a ceremony to launch the implementation of a cement project in this southeastern Iranian provincial city, that Iran's current cement production capacity stands at 32 million tons.

He said that Iran stands 14th in terms of cement production, while 12th and 15th in terms of consumption and export of the commodity respectively.

He added that credits have been diverted from the Forex Reserve Fund for establishment of 32 cement factories with the capacity to produce 32 million tons.

Iran's common borders with Afghanistan and Iraq provides a suitable chance for setting up cement markets in the two neighboring states, he said. The minister said the two countries depend on Iran for their cement needs.

No country, he said, is now capable of competing with Iran in the area of cement and even the country can meet other countries' need for construction materials.
