Tremor jolts northeastern Iran

Tehran, Feb 6, IRNA -- A mild tremor measuring 3.8 on the open-ended Richter scale shook the town of Ashkhaneh in the northeastern province of North Khorassan in the wee hours of Sunday.

The seismological base of Tehran University's Geophysics Institute located the epicenter of the quake in an area in the outskirts of the town measuring 37.53 degrees in latitude and 56.65 degrees in longitude.

There were no reports of any damage to property caused by the quake.

Iran is situated on some of the world's most active seismic faultlines and quakes of varying magnitudes are of usual occurrence.
