The seismological base of Tehran University's Geophysics Institute located the epicenter of the quake in an area between the towns of Robat Posht-e Baam and Saghand measuring 32.79 degrees in latitude and 55.42 degrees in longitude.
The quake occurred at 22:35 hours local time (19.05 GMT). There were no reports of any damage to property caused by the quake.
Iran is situated on some of the world's most active seismic faultlines and quakes of varying magnitudes are of usual occurrence.
