Iran to export 58 tons of caviar

Yazd, Feb 12, IRNA -- Iran has set a target of 58 tons of caviar for export in 2005, the managing director of Iran Fisheries Company said in Yazd on Saturday.

Talking to IRNA, Lotfollah Saeidi said the amount of sea products exported in the current Iranian year shows a 10 percent boost compared to the figure released in the previous year.

He predicted exports of sea products to reach 80 million dollars by the end of the current year.

"The figure will include 25 million dollars worth of caviar, 30 million dollars of various species of shrimp and the rest fish," he said.

Iranian sea products are mainly exported to European and Far East countries.

The official further disclosed that 440,000 tons of various fish species are produced annually by the country, adding there are strong possibilities fish production in the country will reach 764,000 tons by the end of the Fourth Five-Year Development Plan (2000-2005).
