Quake jolts town of Khonj in Iran's southern province of Fars

Shiraz, Jan 1, IRNA -- An earthquake measuring 3.9 on the open-ended Richter scale shook the town of Khonj in the southern province of Fars on Saturday.

According to the seismological base of Tehran University's Geophysics Institute, the tremor occurred at 13:44 hours local time (1014 GMT).

There were no reports of any damage to property caused by the quake.

An earthquake measuring 4.1 on the open-ended Richter scale jolted the city of Jahrom in Fars province Friday night.

According to the seismological base of Tehran University's Geophysics Institute, the tremor occurred at 21:37 hours local time (1807 GMT).

Iran is situated on some of the world's most active seismic fault lines and quakes of varying magnitudes are of usual occurrence.
