Quakes jolt Iranian cities

Tehran, Jan 1, IRNA -- An earthquake measuring 4.1 on the open-ended Richter scale shook the city of Jahrom in the southern province of Fars Friday night.

According to the seismological base of Tehran University's Geophysics Institute, the tremor occurred at 21:37 hours local time (1807 GMT).

Meanwhile, another earthquake, measuring 3.7 on the open-ended Richter scale jolted the city of Amlash in the northern province of Gilan early Saturday.

According to the seismological base of Tehran University's Geophysics Institute, the tremor occurred at 05:01 hours local time (0131 GMT).

There were no reports of any damage to property caused by the quakes.

Iran is situated on some of the world's most active seismic fault lines and quakes of varying magnitudes are of usual occurrence.
