Andimeshk, Khuzestan prov, Jan 6, IRNA -- Anti-drug police discovered
24 kg of heroin in a special operation in the southwestern city of Andimeshk on
Wednesday.
Andimeshk general prosecutor Behzad Sa'adatzadeh told IRNA
Thursday that police raided a house owned by Ahmad A, finding the
illicit drugs, a pistol and 154 bullets.
The smuggler and his two accomplices trafficked the drugs from
Sistan and Baluchestan province, said the prosecutor, adding that the
duo were arrested in Khorramshahr.
Iran lies on the crossroads of major drug trafficking routes
originating mainly from Afghanistan.
According to official estimates, Iran's anti-drug campaign costs
the country about dlrs 800 million annually.
The country is credited with intercepting 80 percent of the opium
and 90 percent of the morphine seized worldwide.
