UNICEF to implement supportive program in Iran's deprived areas

Zahedan, Sistan and Baluchestan prov, Jan 8, IRNA -- The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) is to implement a five-year program in Iran to support children in the deprived areas, said the Fund's representative in Iran on Saturday.

According to an agreement signed recently by Iran and UNICEF, the Fund is to implement a program to support children's rights, promote their health, nutrition, training, study child abuse and birth registration in Iran in the deprived areas, said Yan Peter.

The program is to be implemented in provinces of Sistan and Baluchestan (southeastern Iran) , West Azarbaijan (northwestern Iran) and Hormuzgan (southern Iran), said the UNICEF official while visiting the town of Nikshahr neighboring Zahedan along with his ntourage.

The UNICEF is scheduled to implement some parts of the program in the town of Nikshahr, based on the statistics provided by the authorities on some issues including malnutrition, education and children's mortality rate.
