Iran's soccer team defeats Saudi Arabia 5-3 in Deaflympic games

Melbourne, Jan 8, IRNA -- Ali-Asghar Tohidlou grabbed his hat-trick to help 10-man Iran beat Saudi Arabia 5-3 in a football match of the 20th Deaflympic Games in Melbourne on Friday.

Tohidlou opened the scoring on 11 minutes and his teammate Qader Teimouri made it 2-0 in the 22nd minute.

Iran was reduced to 10 men eight minutes later as defender Davoud Sa'adatizadeh was red-cared for a wild tackle.

Saudi Arabia pulled one back when substitute Fallah al-Dossari netted, sending the two sides to the locker rooms with a 2-1 result.

After the interval, Iran possessed ball and field, hitting the third when Tohidlou managed to double his scoring.

But Hassan al-Hazani again minimized the gap in the 62th minute.

The fourth goal came one minute from normal time. Tohidlou, the toast of Iran, found the net one minute from time but it was not the whole story as substitute Alireza Basij added the fifth in the stoppage time.

Saudis' consolation goal was scored by Majid al-Samari following defending blunder in the ninth minute of the additional time.

Iran topped Group C thanks to a better goal difference in comparison with Germany, which beat the Czech Republic 2-0 Friday.

On Jan 5, Iran and Germany struggled to a 1-1 draw.

According to schedule, Iran plays the Czech team and Germany arrays against Saudi Arabia Sunday.

Iran is one draw from the next round.
