Iranian President to start 7-nation African tour on Tuesday

Tehran, Jan 10, IRNA -- President Seyed Mohammad Khatami is to begin a seven-nation African tour on Tuesday on the official invitation of his counterparts.

According to the Press Bureau of the Presidential Office, Khatami's visits to the Arican states will be in response to previous visits made to Tehran of the presidents of Nigeria, Mali, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Zimbabwe, Uganda and Benin.

The president will hold talks on political, technical and engineering, economic, cultural, health, regional and international issues with leaders of the countries he will be visiting.

His tour aims at bolstering technical and engineering cooperation as well as increasing and diversifying industrial exports to the aforestated African states.

Khatami, during his official visit to Senegal, is scheduled to deliver a speech in Senegal University and meet with Senegal's Muslim and Christian ulema.

He will be accompanied in his tour by the ministers of foreign affairs, industries and mines, commerce and cooperatives.
