Strong Earthquake jolts Iran's northeastern Golestan Province

Tehran, Jan 11, IRNA -- An earthquake measuring 5.8 degrees on the open-ended Richter scale jolted surrounding areas of Agh Qala City in Iran's northeastern Golestan Province Monday night.

According to seismological center of Tehran University Geophysical Institute, the tremor had occurred at 22:17:31 local time (18:47 GMT) and the epicenter of the tremor was at 37.13 latitude and 54.47 longitude.

On October 8th 2004, the city was jolted 12 times, the strongest one measuring 5.8 degrees and the lowest one 3.1 degrees on Richer scale.

There is no immediate report on damages, or casualties of the quake.

Earthquakes of minor magnitude are a regular occurrence in Iran hich is situated on some of the world's seismic fault lines.

Earthquake jolts Jiroft City in Kerman Province

Jiroft, Kerman prov, Jan 11, IRNA -- An earthquake measuring 4.1 degrees on the open-ended Richter scale jolted Jiroft City in Iran's central Kerman Province on Monday night at the 22:08 local time (18:38 GMT).

After the tremor, in spite of sever cold weather in the area frightened people poured into the streets.

There is no immediate report on possible damages or casualties.
