According to the report, AIPS took a poll among 143 member countries and its own experts to pick up the best sportsmen and sportswomen in the previous year.

Rezazadeh ranked 12th in the association's poll in 2003.

The cherubic Iranian colossus proved unrivaled as he won the Olympic gold on walkover in Athens on August 25.

The 26-year-old, who invoked Hazrat Abolfazl (AS), a religious leader of the Shiites, prior to his every attempt edged past all rivals with a 210 kg lift in snatch, which was later combined with a world record of 263.5 kg in the clean and jerk.

Rezazadeh improved his own record by 0.5 kg as he incredibly flung the bar above his head in his third clean-and-jerk effort.

US swimmer Michael Phelps, who won eight golds in 2004 Athens Summer Olympic Games, was voted as the Best Male Athlete while runner Kelly Holmes from Britain, 800m and 1,500m gold medalist in 2004 Summer Olympic Games, was elected as the Best Female Athlete.
