"First of all I believe, one of the world's hopes this year is that a comprehensive and lasting accord can be reached after the progress in the negotiations," said Schroeder during a news conference, responding to an IRNA question on his assessment of the chances for reaching a long-term political deal.
Asked about America's refusal to join the EU-Iran talks, the German leader said, "The United States has decided not to take part in the negotiations (with Iran) and I have to respect it. But it's not like the three European states are not communicating with their American friends and allies on this question."
German leaders have repeatedly urged the US to take a less hostile attitude towards the Islamic Republic of Iran and join the EU-Iran political talks.
