Iran-France Cultural Week opens in Tehran

Tehran, Jan 23, IRNA -- Iran-France Cultural Week opened at Tehran House of Artists on Saturday evening.

The inaugural ceremony of the joint cultural week was attended by the French Ambassador to Tehran Francois Nicoullaud and members of Iran-France Friendship Society.

Head of Iran-France Friendship Society (IFFS) Sohrab Fotouhi told IRNA that joint friendship groups play a crucial role in expansion and consolidation of inter-state friendly relations.

Iran-France Friendship Society is a non-political association which launched its activity in cultural, literary, scientific and artistic fields in late winter of 2001.

The society has already held several ceremonies on various occasions including 'Summer Festival' and 'Victor Hugo's 2nd Birthday Anniversary'.

"The IFFS tends to arrange various cultural, scientific and literary programs and ceremonies in Iran and France," he added.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the outstanding Iranian film director, Kambiz Derambakhsh, said that over the past 30 years he has directed over 100 documentaries for screening at the French cinemas and broadcasting on its television networks.

Derambakhsh noted that the films directed by him mainly aimed to introduce the Iranian and French culture.

Another lecturer, Jahangir Hedayat, addressing the ceremony referred to the life story of the celebrated Iranian author, Sadeq Hedayat, and said that after his visit to France he introduced modernity into the Persian literature.

According to him, translation of the author's book dubbed 'Bouf- Kour' (Blind Bat) into French made him popular in the world.

Two documentaries from Derambakhsh and another one from Albert La Maurice are scheduled to go on screen during the week-long ceremony.

Screening documentaries, holding photo and painting expositions, discussions on cultural issues and speeches are some of the programs scheduled for the week.

Besides programs aiming to introduce the works of several Iranian and French writers and artists including Sadeq Hedayat (author), Kioumars Derambakhsh (film director), Nima Youshij (poet), Eugene Flanden (painter), Albert La Maurice (film director) and Mansour Vakili (author) are planned for the ongoing cultural week.

The cultural event has been organized jointly by IFFS and UNESCO representative office in Tehran. It will continue up to January 28.
