Tehran, Jan. 23(Iranian Cultural Heritage News Agency) - Tabriz metro is going to pass the historical quarters of the city and the archeological site of Kaboud Mosque dating to some three thousand years ago.
The plans for the metro of Tabriz city reveals that some parts of the metro's first line will pass underneath the historical quarters of the city, specially that of the ancient Kaboud Mosque. The project to build the line has already been started.
According to head of the Cultural Heritage and Tourism Department of Eastern Azarbaijan, Akbar Taghizadeh, the metro line and its stations are going to be built underneath ancient quarters, where some notable antiquities have been found in the recent years.
The modern city of Tabriz is, moreover, constructed over remains of cities destroyed during previous earthquakes, and therefore the city base is not safe specially in the historical parts and this can cause serious problems for the structures, Taghizadeh told CHN.
Archeological remains of Kaboud Mosque are found in a depth of 7 meters and the metro tunnels may damage these layers.
The officials of the CHTO and those of Tabriz Metro are now discussing the matter to find it a proper solution.
