Spanish Guitar in Tehran
By Syma Sayyah, Tehran

The month of May was a good one for those of us who live in Tehran, despite the very changeable weather and temperature. Last week of May I and a few Friends went to a Spanish Guitar concert at Roudaki hall, Vahdatt. The concert had been organized by the Spanish embassy in Tehran with the zealous efforts of Mr. Molina Lamoth. Payvand announced this program in Fernando Espí's Spanish Classical Guitar Concert in Tehran

There we listened to the magic of this young Spanish artist Fernando Espí. There were some shortcomings like the the soft chaos at the entrance and seating arrangements, as well as having to walk up 5 flights of stairs, and the fact that all the hall's small lights were on during the whole of the performance, and the spot light was directed on the bouquet of flowers on the stage rather than the artist. But despite this all, we were mesmerized by the lovely sound of his guitar. I loved the third piece of the first act, a short love song by Joaquim Malatis, titled Serenata Espanola. Tears were brought to my eyes; I missed my loved one so very much, and I wished him to be there to share this heavenly sound.

Fernando Espí's technique was great, and I only wished he was not quite so shy and uneasy for this mainly young audience. A few young artists were at the exit hall when we left the concert and their show was quite lively. I have a few pictures for you to get the buzz of the evening. In any case your places were empty!
