Nasseri protests airing false film about Iran from Australian TV

Tehran, July 5, IRNA-IRNA Managing Director Abdollah Nasseri Taheri on Tuesday expressed dismay at airing a false scenario from Australian television about "poverty and corruption in Iran".

"It was surprising that Australian television broadcast such a fictitious film about Iran," Nasseri told Australian Ambassador Gregory Lawrence Moriaty.

Nasseri said that reformist government during eight-year term in office served to enforce free flow of information and many countries have fostered media cooperation with Iran.

He said that IRNA is willing to develop media cooperation with Australia.

Criticizing broadcast of the fictitious film from Australian television, Nasseri said, "Iran has longstanding civilization and culture and if someone wanted to express view about Iran, he or she should get acquainted with Iranian history and society beforehand, otherwise, any judgement would be wrong."

Nasseri said that the young have made eye-catching advance in administration of their country and political, social, cultural and scientific grounds.

"Of course, our young generation have many demands which should be met in accord with Constitution of the Islamic Republic. The reformist government provided the youth with freedom of expression to proceed with their demands. The trend will continue in future," Nasseri said.

Nasseri said that the difficulties from which the youth are suffering mainly concern losses eight-year Iraqi-imposed war inflicted on Iran (1980-1988).

"Enemies of Islamic Republic imposed war on Iran to hamper process of economic development," Nasseri said.

"The US is always looking for an excuse for creating obstacles in the way of economic development of Iran and is currently abusing Iranian program to generate electricity from nuclear energy for enforcing economic sanctions on Iran," Nasseri said.

"The Americans see Iran as an obstacle in the way of establishment larger Middle East and are working hard to stop Iran's economic development," he said.

The ambassador said that he would work for media cooperation between Iran and Australia during his tenure in Iran.

Moriaty said that foreign nations are not aware of magnitude of losses inflicted on Iran by war and to what extent, damages Iran suffered during eight-year imposed war has been effective in delaying economic development.
