Iran's Foreign Ministry here Tuesday summoned the Austrian Ambassador to Tehran, Michael Stigglebauer, to strongly protest against false accusations leveled by that country's Interior Ministry spokesman against President-elect Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, IRNA reported from Tehran
Austrian Green Party security spokesman Peter Pilz said on Monday there exists evidence that Iranian President-elect Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was involved in the 1989 assassination of Iranian exile Kurdish opposition leader Abdul Rahman Qasemlou and two other Kurdish politicians in Vienna.
In the meeting, Director General of Iran's Foreign Ministry for West Europe Affairs Ebrahim Rahimpour voiced strong protest against allegations published by certain Austrian circles against Iran and demanded necessary explanation in this regard.
Rahimpour said while the presidential election was welcomed by several countries, Austria made such remarks to follow the US policies.
He urged the Austrian government to correct the issue.
It is not acceptable to Tehran that the Austrian Interior Ministry spokesman repeats the propaganda of a small party, he added.
The Austrian ambassador said the Interior Ministry declared the issue just based on information of a political party, adding publication of the news does not mean accusing Iran's president-elect by an Austrian senior official.
He said he would investigate the issue and announce the results soon.
