Life
here in Tehran has been anything but
normal in the past few weeks. But despite all the surprises and excitement of
the recent election (including the fact that on a couple of occasions during the
campaign we were unable to get home until dawn as all routes to our house were
blocked by excited young and old who had found an excuse to leave their homes
and join the crowds), a lot of events went on as normal. This included many art exhibitions
around town. And here I shall share details of a couple of events that I visited
at the time. I have put these events into two short reports. And here is the
first one.

Artist Mohamand
Sharifi Tehrani
Mohamand Sharifi Tehrani
is a young artist whom I first met at a party a few months ago where there were
many works of Iranian modern artists on the walls. I was so pleasantly surprised
that he knew the works and the painters so well. We had a very lively discussion about
art and artists in
Iran. It was
later that I learned that he was a painter who had studied art properly and was
knowledgeable about artists, their styles and art movements.

When
I went to see his show at the Abtin gallery (info@abtinart.com, Telephone 2017761) on Election Day, I was impressed
once again with his know-how.
Black, gold and white colors have a great role in his works, and he uses
other colors with hesitation, often just enough to make a point. I am sure he is
a painter whose work I shall follow to see his progress and the changes in his
work. I liked most, although not
all, of the works at this exhibition.
I have included a few samples for you so you can decide for
yourself.
