Quake hits southern Iran

Tehran, July 12, IRNA-A mild earthquake measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale hit Bandar Abbas and its vicinity in the southern province of Hormuzgan Tuesday.

The seismological base of the Geophysics Institute, affiliated to Tehran University, recorded the tremor at 12:34 hours local time (08.04 GMT) The tremor was registered in an area 27.07 degrees in latitude and 55.91 degrees in longitude, the base added.

There were no reports of any damage to properties caused by the quake.

Quakes of varying magnitudes are of usual occurrence in Iran which lies on one of the world's most active seismic fault lines.
