Tehran, July 18, IRNA-President Mohammad Khatami described as a very brilliant success the great achievement of Iranian female climbers in ascending Mount Everest.
In a meeting with the members of the team Sunday, he praised the athletes saying accomplishment of such a hard task called for a strong body, soul and spirit.
He expressed hope that the success of Iranian climbers could further attract the attention of officials to the field of mountain climbing.
A group of Iranian mountaineers, including seven women, hoisted the tricolor on the 8,885-meter-high summit on May 30.
Accompanied by male coaches, the Iranian team managed to reach the peak of the Mt Everest after two months, celebrating the "first climb by Muslim women".
Farkhondeh Sadeq and Leila Bahrami, two gritty Iranian women, led the team on its daunting task of climbing the arduous path.
Members of the Everest expedition were aged between 25 and 36, who were picked out of 69 applicants.
