Tabriz, East Azarbaijan Prov, July 25, IRNA-Minister of Health, Massoud Pezeshkian, said in Tabriz on Sunday child mortality would drop once the family doctor plan is implemented. The minister made the remark on the sidelines of an international symposium titled 'Child Health and Disease Control'.
He further told reporters in this northwestern provincial capital city that reviewing medical measures and exchanging experiences are considered as new steps aimed at improving children's health.
He noted that in developed countries four out of 1,000 children die of various diseases while the figure is 18 in Iran. This, of course, is mostly attributed to the remote and underdeveloped regions and the slum areas.
Pezeshkian stressed scientific and strong management as prerequisites for tackling the problem and lowering child mortality.
Some 50 pediatricians from East Mediterranean countries are taking part in the 4-day international symposium.
The international symposium is coordinated by the Eastern Mediterranean regional office of World Health Organization and Tabriz Medical Sciences Faculty.
