The colorful ladies of 7th Tir rehabilitation center in Tehran

By Syma Sayyah, Tehran

Here are the latest pictures that I took at the 7th Tir Rehabilitation Center for Girls in North Tehran, when I went there last week. These girls who study at the Popli building at the center attend small classes and learn many new trades. This center allows these young girls (from 5-35) hope and a have a sense of comfort.

The new head of the center is Dr. Roya Jamzadeh who has been doing a great deal of good since her appointment early last year. I was quite impressed that she knew all the girls by their first names and so did most of the staff at the center.

This place has always made me think there is hope as long people don't forget them. In one of the pictures you see one teacher who is one of the girls from the center, who after finishing her university studies decided to help the 7th Tir and has become one of the teachers there.

Some of the girls are so full of life and joy that it touches one's heart very deeply. I shall be surprised if anyone of you who is able to take a short trip there when you are in Tehran doesn't feel deeply moved and touched such that helping them will become a thing to do in your busy lives.

Popli Khalatbari Foundation (a UK charity organization - helps to run the 7th Tir center in many different ways throughout the year, including purchasing new computers, meeting the running costs of the Popli building and paying for the refurbishing costs of the girls' living quarters and replacing needed goods. You may help the center directly or through the Popli Foundation which does a great deal for the center as mentioned above.

Another way that I found very effective is that we ask the center manager Dr. Jamzadeh what goods, items or products they need and then we get together and buy that item for the center as it is faster and easier to make the lives of these young ladies more comfortable and easy. This can include payment of some of the girls' university fees and or living and study expenses.

The e-mail address of the center is: and their telephone number 2234723
