Vienna, June 6, IRNA-Iran's taekwondo phenom Youssef Karami overpowered his rivals in an international tournament in Austria, winning the gold medal of the seventh category Saturday.
The bronze medalist of 2004 Athens Olympics defeated his opponents from Germany, Hungary, and Croatia before out pointing the finalist from the home country.
Karami received kudos from thousands of Austrian fans watching the final showdown.
In the first weight, Feizollah Nafjam from Iran beat representatives from Italy and Republic of Azerbaijan, storming into the final.
In the third weight, Iran's Abbas Sana'ian was knocked out of the event with a loss to his Croatian rival.
In the fifth weight, Reza Sargolzari of Iran won his first two clashes, but was eliminated in his third confrontation by an Iranian player, who represented Germany.
Over 700 players from 30 countries have participated in the international competitions.
