Quake hits Bandar Abbas in southern Iran

Tehran, March 4, IRNA -- An earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale hit the city of Bandar Abbas in the southern province of Hormuzgan Thursday night.

According to the seismological base of Tehran University's Geophysics Institute, the tremor occurred at 22:57 hours local time (1927 GMT).

The seismological base located the epicenter of the quake on the outskirts of Bandar Abbas, measuring 37.03 degrees in latitude and 55.90 degrees in longitude.

There are no reports of damage to property caused by the quake.

Iran is situated on some of the world's most active seismic fault lines and quakes of varying magnitudes are of usual occurrence.
