4th Tehran International Animation Festival to open March 6

Tehran, March 5, IRNA -- The 4th Tehran International Animation Festival will open at the Institute for Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults (IIDCYA) Sunday, running through March 10.

Out of 1,450 Iranian and foreign animation films offered for screening, 446 have been selected for the domestic and international competition sections.

Among the picked films, 211 are Iranian-made and the remaining 235 are foreign.

The festival comprises four major sections of 'Competition,' 'Non-Competition,' 'Special Section,' and 'Perspective'.

Besides, other sections such as 'Children's Cinema' and 'A Review of Foreign Jury Members' Films' have been added to the festival for the first time.

In 'Perspective', also a new section, the activities of selected animation institutes from several countries and productions of some foreign and domestic animators will be discussed during the event.

Cinematographers, film analysts and instructors, animators as well as jury members will meet on the sidelines of the event to discuss the new animation techniques and styles and analyze the screened animation.

A selection of the films produced by the world-famous animators will also be reviewed in a separate meeting.

In the Domestic Section, in addition to feature and short films, 200 television and commercial films will also be screened.

Four 2005 Oscar Award nominees are scheduled to go on screen in the festival.

One of the films of the American director Bill Plympton and 'Lorenzo' from Walt Disney are two of the Oscar nominees to be screened in the upcoming event.

On the sidelines of the festival, five specialized meetings and some training workshops will be held.

The meetings will be attended by jury members, animators, film specialists, analysts, and cinematographers from Iran and other countries.

Sixty-two countries are scheduled to screen their animation.

Ebrahim Forouzesh, Abdollah Alimorad, and Saeid Tavakkolian are among the Iranian members of the festival's jury to evaluate Iran's Competition Section.

The members of the jury for the International Section are from Iran, Poland, Britain, and France.
