Berlin, March 7, IRNA -- German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder will meet
later in the day with French President Jacques Chirac in his hometown
of Blomberg where they are to discuss the latest developments in
Iran's nuclear case, the German public television network ARD reported
Monday morning.
Germany, France, and Britain are spearheading negotiations with
Iran on behalf of the European Union, in a bid to reach a lasting
political and nuclear accord.
Schroeder has repeatedly stressed on the need for a diplomatic
settlement of the Iranian nuclear dispute, saying it was the "only
alternative."
He has also made clear that Iran's "legitimate security interests
had to be safeguarded" if Tehran was to agree to a nuclear deal with
the Europeans.
