Tehran, Mar. 8 (Iranian Cultural Heritage News Agency) – Archaeologists working on the historical site of the Burnt City in Sistan-Baluchistan have unearthed for the first time ever the body of a woman with silver earrings remained at sides of her head.

The Burnt City is located some kilometers out of Zabol city of Sistan-Baluchistan province and is considered one of the major world sites where urban life started to form. Some archaeologists believe that its importance is no less than that of sites remaining from Egypt civilizations.

The ancient residents of the Burnt City loved jewelry and precious stones, and were skilled in related arts of creating necklaces and bracelets. They even exported their products to other regions; however, so far no earrings had been found in the historical site and therefore. The archaeologists had therefore concluded that residents of the city did not pierce their ears.

The new pair of earrings, which are two large silver loops, is discovered exactly next to the ears of the woman’s skeleton, and revises previous interpretations of the people’s jewelry choice.

A large mirror and a silver simple ring are also discovered in the woman’s tomb, explained head of the excavation team of the Burnt City, Mansour Sajjadi.

The skeleton is under more studies for her age, origin, and other characteristics to be identified.
