Tehran, March 15, IRNA-Iranian President Mohammad Khatami inaugurated Karaj-Golshahr metro line in the populous neighboring city of Karaj, 35 km west of Tehran, on Tuesday.
The nine-kilometer line is a continuation of the previous Tehran-Karaj metro line which linked the Iranian capital to its western neighboring city.
The Karaj-Golshahr line would facilitate travels between Tehran and western Karaj.
It would also increase the number of daily travels between Tehran and Karaj from the current 100,000 to 150,000.
President Mohammad Khatami said during the inaugural ceremony that establishment and development of Iran's metro was among the country's major post-revolution works.
Iran can export technical, engineering and scientific services instead of raw materials, Khatami said.
He pointed to other countries' interests to make use of Iran's technical capabilities, saying Iran, based on its interests and without any colonial view, is eager to share its experiences with other states in different fields.
He added that Iran signed several contracts valued at 700 million dollars with Venezuela, saying the inked documents are indicative of Iran's ability to export technical and engineering services.
He also expressed gratitude over the participation of China in Iran's development projects including metro.
He said that China's contribution was a token of firm solidarity between the two states.
