New Canadian envoy to Iran submits credentials to President Khatami

Tehran, March 26, IRNA-Canada's new Ambassador to Tehran Gordon Wenner met with President Mohammad Khatami on Saturday in Tehran and submitted his credentials to him.

In the meeting, President Khatami said that maintaining the two countries' relations at a satisfactory level is not only of great importance for both sides, but also for the whole region and the world peace and stability.

The IRI president added, "Canada is among the developed countries with a modern culture and civilization," pointing out that Ottawa's role in international arena and in scientific and economic advancement in the world is quite noticeable today.

He expressed hope that relying on the two governments' good will, mutual respect, and not yielding to the influenced of the ill-willed others, Tehran and Ottawa could promote their bilateral relations to a level which could secure the two nations' vital interests.

The new Canadian ambassador, for his part, said that his government favored the consolidation and expansion of mutual ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran and hoped to solve the existing disputes as soon as possible.

Emphasizing on the need for strengthening the foundations of bilateral relations in all fields, the new Canadian ambassador called for elimination of obstacles in the way and the expansion of comprehensive mutual ties.
