Iran Air launches direct Tabriz-Baku flight

Tabriz, East Azarbaijan prov, March 28, IRNA-Iran's flag carrier, Iran Air, on Monday launched its first direct flight from this northwestern Iranian city to Baku, the capital of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Iran Air will operate its Tabriz-Baku flight once a week on Mondays.

Officials from East Azarbaijan province and Azeri consulate in Tabriz were present at the inaugural ceremony.

Governor General of East Azarbaijan Province Mohammad-Ali Sobhanollahi said at the ceremony Monday that expansion of ties with Turkey and Azerbaijan is a top priority for the provincial administration.

Sobhanollahi said expansion of ties between East Azarbaijan province and Turkey and Azerbaijan Republic is of great significance in view of their abundant cultural and historical commonalties.

He said the newly inaugurated route is among other facilities provided for citizens of the province following the inauguration of Azeri consulate in Tabriz.

The flight from Tabriz to Baku is scheduled at 16:15 p.m., while the return flight will leave Baku at 20:00 p.m. every Monday.

Sobhanollahi said provincial officials are making efforts to remove visa problems for passengers traveling on the Tabriz-Baku route.

He hoped that in near future, the direct Tabriz-Dubai flight will be launched.

Tabriz airport in the northwest of Iran is one of the most modern airports of the country, conducting 16 domestic and overseas flights a day.

Iran Air's first direct flight from Tabriz Airport officially began to Istanbul, Turkey, and Damascus, Syria, last year.

Tabriz-Istanbul flights are scheduled every Sundays and Thursdays, while Tabriz-Damascus flights operate on Wednesdays every week.

According to Tabriz airport officials, Tabriz-Dubai and Tabriz- Kish flights from the airport will become operational this year.
