Boroujerd, Lorestan prov, May 3, IRNA-At least one person was killed and 26 others were wounded in a strong quake which hit the western city of Boroujerd Tuesday, a local official Majid Roshankar announced.
According to the seismological base of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the quake measuring 5 on the open-ended Richter scale occurred at 11:51 hours local time (07:21 GMT).
The seismological base announced that the village of Cheghlondi around the city of Boroujerd was the epicenter of the quake.
Head of the Lorestan Natural Disaster Headquarters Ali Barani said that the tremble heavily damaged four villages of Hassankhani, Tabrijan, Ganjineh and Delikhan.
Another tremor measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale shook the city today.
According to the seismological center affiliated to the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the tremor occurred at 11:54 hours local time (07:24 GMT).
The seismological base located the epicenter of the quake on the outskirts of Boroujerd, measuring 33.85 degrees in latitude and 48.80 degrees in longitude.
Some 200 local people were gathered in front of the Boroujerd Governor's Office, calling on officials to render help such as tents.
Provincial relief workers have been dispatched to different quake-hit regions to provide any kind of assistance.
Seven earthquakes measuring from 2.8 to 4.1 on the Richter scale have shaken Boroujerd in the past one week.
Iran is situated on some of the world's most active seismic fault lines and quakes of varying magnitudes are of usual occurrence.
