Envoy: Tehran-Beijing trade value to reach $10 billion per year

Beijing, May 4, IRNA-Iranian Ambassador to China Fereydoun Verdinejad said that the value of Tehran-Beijing trade exchange will reach dlrs 10 billion annually in the coming years.

In an interview with the Wednesday edition of Chinese daily `Youth of China', Verdinejad said that Tehran-Beijing economic commission is to convene in Tehran this year, with Chinese deputy prime minister chairing the meeting.

Verdinejad said Iran-China joint economic meeting and the exhibition of Chinese spare parts and machinery will be held in Iran in the coming months.

He said Iran and China will hold a new round of political consultations at the level of deputy foreign ministers in Tehran this year and three research teams will be exchanged by the two sides this year. Two delegations will visit Iran from China and one from Iran to China this year, he added.

Chinese culture week was held in Tehran last year and Iran's culture week will be held in China this year, he added.

Iran and China have maintained cultural and scientific cooperation and granted scholarships to each other's students to study in either country, noted Verdinejad.

A delegation from Chinese National People's Congress is to visit Tehran at the invitation of Iranian parliament, said the Iranian diplomat, adding that cooperation between the two sides is extensive.

Turning to Asia and building relationships with Asian states are parts of Iran's foreign policy and on this basis Tehran has extensive relations with the Asian countries, he added.

Verdinejad said exchange of oil and gas is among key areas of cooperation between Iran and China and necessary agreements have been signed for exchange of fuels.

Iran-China ties are durable, long-term and in the interest of both nations and prospect of the relations on the political, economic and cultural domains is very bright, said Verdinejad.

On the US-Iran relations and threats against Iran, Verdinejad said Iran is not interested in clashes with any party, including Americans, but logic of the US foreign policy and of the group ruling the White House is the logic of force and bullying.

Washington wants to wage a psychological war and tries to find a pretext to build up pressures on Iran, whereas Tehran has logical and justifiable words in the field of nuclear energy, he said.

On the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) too, such countries as China, Russia and the Non-Aligned Movement states are not ready to accept the US' illogical policies, he added.

The ambassador then referred to Iran's ties with Iraq and Afghanistan, saying dialogue with different groups and their encouragement to continue integration and cooperation in order to form a government and hold elections are the most important areas of cooperation between Iran and the two countries.

Iran is cooperating with those governments coming to power through popular elections and is rendering highest amount of assistance to them, he concluded.
