Former British Labor cabinet minister Tony Benn has called on supporter of the anti-war movement to remain mobilized because of the chaos in occupied Iraq and the risk of the US launching another Iraq-style war against Iran or Syria, IRNA reported from London.
"The disastrous occupation and the continued threat of an attack in Iran and Syria means the Stop the War Coalition (STWC) to stay organized and continue campaigning," said Benn, who is president of the peace network.
"We will be mobilizing for the G8 in Scotland July 2-3 and if there are other attacks in the Middle East we need to be ready to respond," he said in appeal to supporters of the mass anti-war movement.
STWC is holding twice monthly in Edinburgh, to organize planned demonstrations at the G8 summit in Gleneagles, northwest of the Scottish capital. With other peace groups, it is also planning protests against Britain's fleet of Trident nuclear submarines at their Faslane Base near Glasgow just two days before the start of the summit on July 6.
