Tehran, May 18, IRNA-Iran, Taiwan, South Korea, and India advanced to the last four of the 5th Asian Juniors' Volleyball Championships in Tehran on Tuesday.
The home team Iran overpowered Australia 3-1 in the volleyball hall of Azadi Sports Complex in western Tehran.
Iran edged past the Aussies 26-24 23-25 25-14 25-18.
Earlier in the day, India clawed his way into the semifinals with a 3-2 win over Japan in a hard-fought thriller.
The resurgent India came from 2-0 down to beat Nippon 3-2.
Japan, which celebrated 25-20 29-27 wins in the first two sets, was stunned by the powerful Indian side in the next three games, losing 25-20 25-23 15-11.
South Korea, too, faced a struggling side from Thailand, booking a berth in the semifinals with a 3-2 victory in a pulsating clash.
The title hopeful Korea won the first set 25-19 but the Thais fought back and emerged victorious in the next two games, taming the Korean team 25-14 25-20.
Not to be outdone, the Koreans leveled the match 2-2 as they won the third set 26-24 and celebrated their qualification for the semifinals with 15-11 victory in the deciding set.
In Tuesday's last match, Taiwan managed to dispose of China 3-2.
The Taiwanese, which were beaten 30-28 29-27 in the first two sets, kept nerves to stun China 25-23 25-20 15-12 in three consecutive sets.
In Wednesday's semifinals, Iran entertains India in a mouthwatering match and South Korea takes on Taiwan.
Fighting for the fifth-eighth titles, Thailand arrays against China and Australia meets Japan.
