Vienna, May 24, IRNA-Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Hassan Rowhani arrived in Geneva, Switzerland, Tuesday to hold nuclear talks with the EU-3 foreign ministers -- France, Britain and Germany.
"Iran's top nuclear official is scheduled to confer with the Europeans on Wednesday in the UN's European headquarters in Geneva, on nuclear issue," an Iranian diplomat told IRNA in Geneva ahead of the meeting.
While senior officials from Iran and the EU3 (Britain, France and Germany) are holding talks in Brussels to prepare the ground for top-level nuclear negotiations, Rowhani and his entourage arrived in Geneva.
Senior official from Iran and the EU3 in Geneva talks on Wednesday will seek to reach an agreement in a bid to ensure the continuation of the negotiations, a western diplomat told IRNA.
The Geneva talks are not viewed as a last ditch chance for reaching an agreement but they will pave the way for next round of talks, said the diplomat.
On the eve of the talks, British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw, however, expressed hope on Tuesday that the talks would make progress.
He noted that the Iranian side is very tough in the negotiations, adding both parties were of the belief that reaching an agreement was in the interest of all.
Straw noted that the Geneva meeting will be held to ensure that both sides (Iran and the EU) abide by the commitments they have already made.
Iranian officials Sirus Nasseri, Hossein Mousavian and Ali Aqa Mohammadi are members of the delegation accompanying Rowhani in Geneva.
The EU3 foreign ministers, representing the 25-member EU, and the EU Foreign Policy Chief Javier Solana are the top-level officials present in Iran-EU nuclear talks in Geneva on Wednesday.
