Iran lifts Asian freestyle wrestling title

Tehran, May 28, IRNA-Iran was crowned at the 18th Asian freestyle wrestling meet in China Friday.

The Asian heavyweight Iran snatched seven colorful medals in seven weight categories, overpowering runner-up Japan and third-placed South Korea.

Iran took three gold, two silver, and two bronze medals.

In the 15th Asian Greco-Roman bouts ended in China last Wednesday, the country ranked sixth.

Iran ranks sixth at Asian Greco-Roman wrestling event With one gold and two bronze medals, the Iranian side followed champion South Korea, runner-up Kazakhstan, and third- to fifth-placed Japan, China, and Kyrgyzstan on 40 points.

Korea, Kazakhstan, and Japan collected 55, 51, and 51 points.

Iran's three medals came as Ali Ashkani overpowered his rivals, grabbing the glittering gold in 60 kg category and Massoud Hashemzadeh and Sajjad Barzi stood third in 96 and 120 kg respectively.
