Vesta Mehr stages original Iranian pop concert at Tehran's Farabi Hall

Tehran, May 28, IRNA-An Iranian Pop Musical Group comprising professional musicians titled Vesta Mehr staged a pop concert at Farabi Hall of Tehran Art University on Thursday.

The conductor of the group, Reza Babaie, told IRNA on Saturday that Vesta Mehr started its activity in 1998 as a student musical group and that in two years it succeeded in promoting itself to a professional pop group.

Babaie, who is also the solo singer of the group, writes the poems and composes the melodies of the musical pieces. He along with his two friends, a good pianist, Serzhik Mirzaian, and an experienced (electrical) guitarist, Mohammad Navidi-pour have jointly founded the group.

The main distinction of Vesta Mehr Pope Musical Group is that unlike other similar groups, its major objective is to make use of the traditional Iranian folklore and modernize it.

Besides they avoid the so-called Los Angles type of music which is the favorite music of the youth. They rather tend to keep their Iranian identity and not imitate the cheap music which is so popular and favored by the young generation.

According to the conductor of the group, to achieve such a goal, they even intend to add Iranian musical instruments to their orchestra in future and introduce the favorite national melodies in a modern way.

Another unique characteristic of the group is that it is accompanied by a choir of three, which complements their performance and leaves a special impression upon the audience.
