Iran's Kerman Province Ready to Guide Desert Trekkers

Tehran, 6 November 2005 (CHN)-- With just a phone call to the Public Relations of the Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organization of Kerman province, tourists can get maps and necessary information about the deserts of Kerman.

"All the domestic and foreign individuals and groups interested in desert trekking in Kerman, can call 0098-341-2816504 to 7 to get the necessary information and maps which will be mailed to them forthwith," says Mohammad Jahanshahi, manager of the Public Relations Department of the Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organization of Kerman.

"Through 10,000 catalogues provided both in Farsi and English languages alongside the pictures of the desert, and the colored book about Kerman which has been published in 5,000 volumes, the attractions of Kerman's nature and deserts were introduced better during last year as compared to previous years," explained Jahanshahi about the increased number of the desert tourists.

Being a province of great antiquity, Kerman contains numerous monuments dating back to pre-Islamic and post-Islamic periods. It is located in the south-eastern part of Iran and covers an area of 180,000 square km. The lowest elevation of Iran is in Shahdad district, located in the northeast of Kerman province. The mysterious city of Kalout, which is one of the most beautiful desert phenomena of the world, is located in this province as well.
