Tehran, Nov 8, IRNA-A number of MPs at Majlis (Parliament) called on President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Tuesday to drop his candidate for oil minister and name another.
President Ahmadinejad, in a letter earlier sent to Majlis, named Sadeq Mahsouli to the oil portfolio along with three other appointees to other ministries and asked parliament for its vote of confidence on these appointees when it meets on Wednesday.
The MPs, in a letter to the president, requested him to withdraw his candidate for oil minister and replace him with another.
The lawmakers said that President Ahmadinejad would do well to withdraw Sadeq Mahsouli as his candidate for oil minister to avoid the embarrassing situation of parliament vetoing his choice for the second time as well as ensure better interaction between government and Majlis with a more favorable minister.
Several MPs from the southwestern province of Khuzestan, home to Iran's vast oil fields, have opposed the president's second choice of oil minister.
