Moscow, Nov 8, IRNA-The head of Russia's Atomic Energy Agency, Alexander Rumyantsev, said in Moscow on Monday cooperation between Iran and Russia in the construction of the power plant in Iran's southern Bushehr province is completely legal.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) sees no problem in the countries' cooperation in the power plant project, Rumyantsev told Itar-Tass News Agency.
He, moreover, said that Russia is observing all necessary requirements for undertaking such activities.
Iran is a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), he said, adding that it has also signed the IAEA's Additional Protocol whose implementation has now been suspended by the Iranian parliament (Majlis).
The Russian official said Iran provides all necessary information required by the IAEA.
Iran and Russia signed an agreement, worth some one billion dollars, in 1995 for construction of the Bushehr power plant.
Operations to build the first phase of the power plant with a 1000mw capacity is to be completed in the near future and will be inaugurated in 2006.
Negotiations between the two sides are currently underway to build the second phase of the power plant.
