The Second Kaveh Golestan
award ceremony took place last Saturday evening at Khaneh Honarmandan
(Artist's Forum). The saloon was
full and by 5:30 when the official ceremony started there were no seats left and
many were standing all around, among them many renowned photojournalists, young
photographers and many well known faces in the art and cultural arenas in
First we saw a wonderful film on Kaveh's life made by Mr Manni Haghighie which moved many in the room who had known Kaveh personally or professionally.
The Award Director Ms Lili Golestan
read out a report of all aspects of the award procedures last year. She thanked the participants, the
judges, and Sam Electronics, the sole official representative of Samsung in
Mr Kamran Jibraeeli and Mr Hassan Sarbakhshian were asked to come to the podium to give to the ten selected participants each a certificate of merit and checks for one million Rials. These participants were as follows and before each name was read his or her work was displayed on the screen, they were:
Nasroulah Hajie Hamid Ghazvinie
Mohamed Reza Ali-Maddadi
After that, Mrs Fakhrie Golestan handed over the best young talent award to Mr Mehdi Ghassemie and talked to the audience and thanked the participants and the judges and said how happy she was that Kaveh's memory is well preserved. She also said how she is pleased with the way the award is run and asked the present award steering committee (Ms Lili Golestan, Mr Bahman Jallali, Ms Rana Javadi and Ms Syma Afshar) to continue their good work.
Then Dr Yuness Shokerkhah presented
the award in the best picture story category to the winners. This year because of the generous
support and sponsorship of Samsung
Hossein Salmanzadeh - Death in
Omid Salehi - Life of Sommayeh
Ms Jihan Ammar, the Deputy Photo Director of AFP Middle East, presented the award for the best single photograph to Mohssen Salehi for his photograph entitled Fetus in sewage. Mohssen Salehi was abroad so his father received the award on his behalf.
The guests were then invited to go the next saloon for refreshment and later down to the galleries on the ground floor to see the works on display.
