Tehran, Nov 12, IRNA-The National Petrochemical Company (NPC) awarded the contract for the construction of Gachsaran ethylene glycol and ethylene oxide project to a consortium of Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co.(M.E.S.) of Japan and Petrochemical Industries Design & Engineering Co.(PIDEC) of Iran.
The contract calls for the provision of license, basic and detailed engineering, procurement and supply of equipment, erection, construction, pre-commissioning, commissioning, start-up and performance test. The plant will use the Shell Technology.
Located near the city of Gachsaran in the Province of Kohgiloyeh- Boirahmad, Gachsaran covers an area of 150 hectares where the main process plant takes up 30 hectares of the total space.
The facility is planned to produce 500,000 tons MEG, 50,000 tons DEG, 3,500 tons TEG plus 100,000 tons of high purity Ethylene Oxide per annum.
Output from the plant is to be mainly used in down-stream units to be set up in the same location next to the ethylene glycol/ethylene oxide facilities.
The plant's feedstock includes 328,000 tons/year of ethylene to be supplied from the West Ethylene pipeline and 368,000 tons/year of Oxygen to be supplied by Gachsaran Co.
The project will be completed within 42 months after the contract becomes effective.
The value of the contract is 263 million Euros.
