Tehran may be quiet on Fridays for many, but there is so much that people can enjoy and find interesting despite it all! One such feature is the Tehran Friday Market which is held on three floors of a multi-storey car park in center of Tehran, what was used to be called 'Charaheh Estamboul' as it is near the Turkish embassy, on the east side of Joumbouri Avenue.
A few Fridays ago, with my friends, we went there to see for ourselves the diversity and buzz that so many who had been there keep talking about. Well I must admit after a couple of hours, there was still so much to see if you could manage maneuvering the crowd.
There were old and new items and if you are lucky you may just pick up some gem that will thrill you for a long time; but do be careful as you may also end up buying a lot of things that you don't need. However, as far as I am concerned it was all worth it.
The best thing there for me as always was the people, especially those who display their goods. I simply fell in love with the violinist who, although he did not play brilliantly, his character in itself was simply enchanting. Do please drop in to see this lovely weekly market when you are in Tehran next time.
Market is open from 9 AM till 4 PM.
