New San Mateo Public Library Creates Opportunity to Highlight Persian Culture

San Mateo is building a new 90,000 sq.ft library that will be three time larger with enhanced collections and expanded meeting space. The new library will be a state-of-the art resource center for literacy and lifelong learning; and a place- a destination, inviting, comfortable and accessible, a place for families, community groups, and people of all ages; and a city landmark with beautiful and distinctive architecture.

This presents a great opportunity to take an immediate and lasting step forward in building a better understanding of the Persian culture within the regional San Francisco Bay Area. Securing the very first Cultural Spotlight Program at the New San Mateo Public library for the Persian Community is an important high visibility goal we can reach together. The cultural spotlight will be a three-month program highlighting the Persian culture by featuring artists, writers, music and special bilingual events.

The new library building and its unique programs will receive extensive local, regional and national media coverage as:

  • The central landmark building in the city of San Mateo one of the greatest public buildings on the West coast, a vital, living model of sustainable technology
  • The first public library with Biotech Learning Center
  • A vibrant bridge to multi-cultural understanding

They are seeking a $50,000 investment from the whole Persian Community, individuals, families, businesses and foundations to:

  • Create for the general public a bilingual Persian Lecture & Performance Series with dynamic artists, writers, poets and scholars by connecting with visiting lectures at Bay Area Universities and Persian Organizations
  • Expand the bilingual Persian Heritage Program for children and youth to familiarize the younger generation with the richness and beauty of their cultural background
  • Increase the Persian Language Collection (books, magazines, CDs, DVDs) by 120%

Visit www.smplibraryfoundation.org for more information on the new library.
